Evisu was officially launched in Osaka, Japan in 1991. Founded by Hidehiko Yamane whose passion for vintage jeans led him to seek out machines that had been out of production for over 40 years in order to recreate authentic vintage jeans with all the details and accessories faithful to their original. The signature colored seagull was added to the pocket, and immediately became the emblem and symbol of the brand.
Evisu jeans quickly became popular with more avant-garde Japanese consumers; then in 1999 the brand gained worldwide fame thanks to a partnership deal that led to Evisu jeans being available in over 400 of the world’s best boutiques and department stores. Despite this enormous growth, the brand manages to retain its craftsmanship spirit, its total devotion to quality, authenticity and the irony and irreverence for which it has always been known.
